$1.646M FUNDING TO SUPPORT VULNERABLE FAMILIES IN RIVERSTONE
Written on the 27 January 2016 by Kevin ConollyMember for Riverstone Kevin Conolly MP today announced that local service providers for children, young people, families and communities in need will be able to continue providing their support, with the NSW Government allocating a total of $1.646M until mid-2017 to nine existing service providers who help deliver early intervention and intensive programs in his electorate of Riverstone.
This funding is part of the NSW Government's $233 million commitment to intervening early to address issues in families which put children at risk of harm and likelihood of entering the child protection system."Extending funding to mid-2017 will provide certainty for our community partners that provide important services like case management, parenting programs and domestic violence support," Kevin Conolly said.
Kevin Conolly MP met with one of those providers, Riverstone Neighbourhood Centre Coordinator Maree Fayne and her staff, to pass on the great news that a total of $228,458 of extension funding will be provided by the NSW Government to support their service to the Riverstone and surrounding community until June 2017."We are so happy with the news of this funding extension. We now have certainty for the near future that we can continue delivering the essential services to people in our local community who are in dire need of our support" said Maree Fayne, Riverstone Neighbourhood Centre's Coordinator.
Between now and 2017 the NSW Government, through the Department of Family and Community Services (FACS), will work closely with service providers supporting the Riverstone electorate to co-design an improved targeted earlier intervention service system in NSW."It is important that the reach and impact of earlier intervention programs is maximised so families and communities have better outcomes," Kevin Conolly said.
