Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils has received a funding grant of $139,828 to reduce litter under the NSW Government's Litter Regional Implementation Grants Program.

Member for Hawkesbury Dominic Perrottet MP and Member for Riverstone Kevin Conolly MP announced the grant today.

Mr Perrottet said the grant, awarded under the NSW Government's $465.7 million Waste Less, Recycle More initiative, will help councils to work together to cut down litter across the region.

"We all want our roads to be litter free, and this grant shows that State and local governments are determined to work with drivers to ensure cleaner roads for our communities," Mr Perrottet said.

Mr Conolly said the initiative, along with the NSW Government's incoming Container Deposit Scheme, will help to remove litter from communities.

Mr Conolly said, "This program is part of the NSW Government's commitment to tackle litter across NSW through tailored local solutions."

Environment Minister Mark Speakman said 16 successful projects would share in $1.2 million under the second stage of the Waste Less, Recycle More initiative's Litter Regional Implementation Grants Program.

"Local litter initiatives like these will make a contribution to the NSW Government's target to reduce litter volume by 40 per cent by 2020," Mr Speakman said.

"Waste groups have developed Litter Implementation Plan as part of the grant process in order to develop evidence based litter solutions. Councils have helped gather information about litter hotspots, who litters, what is littered and why littering occurs."
