CALLS FOR SUBMISSIONS ON STRATEGY
Written on the 21 August 2015 by Kevin ConollyKevin Conolly MP, Member for Riverstone welcomes the announcement by Minister for Multiculturalism John Ajaka of the development of the second NSW Volunteering Strategy and is encouraging the locals to share their views on the future of volunteering in NSW.
Mr Ajaka said that a state-wide public engagement is underway to draw out the experience of today's volunteers, helping construct a purposeful and targeted strategy.
Mr Conolly said that volunteering helps shape purposeful ways of getting involved in local communities, of helping people to feel great, and to remain healthy.
There is a lot of interest now among superannuation funds and banks in promoting volunteering as part of the mix of activities to ensure a happy healthy retirement. This consultation will enable us to shape what volunteering will be like in the years to come," Mr Conolly said.
"The NSW Government is serious about supporting local community participation and supporting the volunteering community to continue to develop across the state."
This second round of public engagement will reach out to people who do not currently volunteer to explore their views and better understand what might lead them to become involved in volunteering.
From August to October people across NSW are invited to participate and provide feedback in special interest forums, in pop-up consults in public spaces and online.
Under the first Volunteering Strategy the NSW Government invested $4.5 million and delivered support to the state's 2.1 million volunteers.
