Member for Riverstone Kevin Conolly is encouraging cricket clubs to apply for a share in $6 million in funds announced by the NSW Government this week and made available through the upcoming NSW ICC World T20 Legacy Fund. This Fund is designed to support local cricket participation and can benefit the whole community; in particular to nurture the participation of our growing number of female players in the sport.

"We know that sports like cricket have many proven health, social and economic benefits and it is a priority for me to foster participation in the region," Mr Conolly said.

"The Riverstone electorate has a proud history of participation in community sporting activities, and this Fund offers an excellent opportunity for cricket clubs and associations to form partnerships with local councils to improve the quality and quantity of their community facilities," said Mr Conolly.

Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said the Fund will be delivered over three years to support grass roots through to elite level cricket participation.

"The NSW Government leads the way in its support of women's sport in Australia, and this Fund specifically nurture the participation pathways for our female cricket players," Mr Ayres said.

"Just last week we launched the 'Future Matildas' initiative to support the training and education for our rising female football stars."

Andrew Jones, Chief Executive Officer of Cricket NSW said that cricket is a global sport, and the World T20 will witness 1.5 billion viewers tune in to 14 NSW matches.

"Currently there are 400,000 grass roots players participating in cricket in NSW, and I am confident that the upcoming ICC World T20 tournament will draw more players to the sport," Mr Jones said.

"This first round of funding provides an exciting opportunity for councils and local clubs to consider projects that provide long-term benefits to local communities."

Successful projects between $5,000 and $250,000 will be funded up to 50 per cent of projects costs. The Fund will focus of three key areas; cricket infrastructure, female participation programs and hosting elite cricket events in regional NSW.

Applications close on 13 July 2018 and more information can be found at
