GRANT TO LOCAL RECYCLING BUSINESS TO REDUCE LANDFILL
Written on the 30 August 2016 by Kevin Conolly
Member for Riverstone, Mr Kevin Conolly MP, today visited a Riverstone recycling business, 'North-West Recycling Centre', the recipient of a $457,500 grant under the NSW Government's Waste Less, Recycle More initiative to reduce green waste going into landfill.
Mr Conolly was given a guided tour of the facility by Company Director Craig Murphy.
This Government program is a five year $465.7 million initiative that aims to transform waste and recycling in NSW and deliver economic, employment and environmental benefits for local communities as well. This package includes funding for waste and recycling infrastructure, supporting local communities, combating illegal dumping, tackling litter and improving the operation of the waste levy.
"I am impressed with the vision and operation of this local recycling firm. It's a worthy recipient of the NSW Government's grant and I congratulate Craig and his team for his successful grant application," said Mr Conolly.
North-West Recycling Centre deals with green (organic) waste only and is expanding its operations, capturing and reprocessing waste from demolition and industrial sites and returning it to the market place that would otherwise be dumped as landfill elsewhere.
"We are very grateful for this grant funding support from the NSW Government as it will be used to purchase new machinery to speed up the recycling process, helping us to cope with the increasing volume of green/organic waste material we are receiving," said Craig Murphy, Director, North-West Recycling Centre.
