JOINT MEDIA RELEASE - STILL TIME FOR SOCIAL HOUSING TO BOOST APPLICANTS

Members for Riverstone and Seven Hills, Mr Kevin Conolly MP and Mr Mark Taylor MP have again encouraged community groups, councils and charities to apply for almost $8 million in State Government funding to help build or improve community facilities used by social housing tenants, after an extension of the latest round of the Social Housing Community Improvement Fund (SHCIF).
Applications for Round 3 of the SHCIF have been extended by two weeks, giving community groups and non-government organisations more time to apply for the one-off grants of between $2000 and $50,000.
Mr Conolly said that the SHCIF was designed to improve outcomes social housing tenants through improving communal spaces that can also be used by the community.
"The SHCIF funds investment in communal facilities that can be enjoyed by both social housing tenants and the broader community alike.
This is a great opportunity for community organisations in Seven Hills to develop and implement projects that will make a real difference in the lives of social housing tenants and help us break the cycle of disadvantage by reducing any feeling of isolation" Mr Taylor said.
Minister for Social Housing, Pru Goward, said that since 2015 the SHCIF has invested in nearly 300 projects across NSW to help build or improve facilities and communal areas used by people living in social housing.
"These grants assist in improving the lives of our most vulnerable through and I encourage all local organisations with ideas on how to community spaces used by social housing tenants to apply for Round Three grants" Ms Goward said.
Applications for Round 3 of the SHCIF will now close at 5pm on 24 May 2017.
The SHCIF delivers on the NSW Government's election commitment to build better and stronger social housing communities by investing $20 million dollars throughout the three rounds.
