MORE SUPPORT FOR BUSY FAMILIES IN RIVERSTONE
Written on the 23 January 2019 by Kevin Conolly
Member for Riverstone Kevin Conolly has welcomed the news that the Before and After School Care centre at Norwest Christian College, Riverstone is to benefit from a $30,000 NSW Government grant awarded last year to enhance the quality of their service.
More busy families in Riverstone will have access to flexible before and after school care for their children, following the announcement last year that Norwest Christian College was successful in their application for the NSW Government's Before and After School Care Fund.
Norwest Christian College was awarded $30,000 to expand their out of school hours care program, with work now nearing completion, creating up to 40 new before and after school places for students.
Minister for Early Childhood Education, Sarah Mitchell and Member for Riverstone, Kevin Conolly today visited the school and met with the new school principal Felicity Marlow, to see first-hand the progress of the works. They congratulated the school for applying for the grant under the Before and After School Care Fund, a $20 million NSW Government initiative designed to create more places in out of school hours care programs across NSW.
"This funding is great news for busy families who need the extra flexibility that before and after school care provides," Mr Conolly said.
"The $30,000 grant from the NSW Government's Before and After School Care Fund has been of positive assistance to Norwest Christian College and created provision for an additional 40 places in our Early Learning Centre and Out of School Hours Care," said Mrs Felicity Marlow, Principal.
"There is a strong community need for these places and we are blessed to now be able to further help families," Mrs Marlow added.
Minister for Early Childhood Education Sarah Mitchell said when travelling across NSW meeting families and services, she is often reminded of just how important flexible childcare options are.
"The $20 million Before and After School Care Fund is one way the Liberals & Nationals Government continues to help families access the childcare support they need," Mrs Mitchell said.
Applications are currently open for Before and After School Care grants. Schools, P&C groups, community groups and not-for-profit organisations are encouraged to apply.
