NEW HOSPITAL FOR ROUSE HILL
Written on the 27 January 2015 by Kevin ConollyHealth Minister Jillian Skinner joined the Member for Riverstone, Kevin Conolly at Rouse Hill to welcome news of a new hospital for the fast-growing region.
Mrs Skinner said the new Rouse Hill hospital forms part of the $1 billion earmarked for health infrastructure projects resulting from the lease of the state's electricity poles and wires."The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is committed to building better health services where people need them, which is why an investment at Rouse Hill is vital," Mrs Skinner said.
"This fast-growing community needs a hospital closer to home and the lease of the poles and wires will deliver this service, and more."Of the $1 billion allocated to health out of the lease of the poles and wires, $600 million will fund a Hospitals Growth Program to construct new hospitals at Campbelltown and Rouse Hill - in areas of high population growth.
"Importantly, the $1 billion from the lease for the new health infrastructure is on top of the normal Treasury allocation for NSW Health."In our first term of government, the NSW Liberals & Nationals have embarked on an extensive capital works program with almost $5 billion invested to rebuild hospitals and health services right across the state."
Mrs Skinner said plans for the new Rouse Hill Hospital will be developed as part of the Hospitals Growth Program."A strategy will be developed by Health Infrastructure taking into account health care opportunities for the Rouse Hill area.
"It will be in line with the metropolitan strategy, which sets out a new plan for the city's future over the next two decades and ensures there is a comprehensive spread of health services in Sydney's north west."Mr Conolly said a new hospital will change the way health services are delivered for the better.
"It's through new facilities that our doctors, nurses and other are able to deliver their first-class care in a first-class setting and this is the plan for Rouse Hill."Mr Conolly said the construction of a new hospital in the region would have countless benefits for the local community.
"The once-in-a-generation funding from the lease of the state's poles and wires will super-charge our ability to deliver modern health services that meet the needs of local patients well into the future," Mr Connolly said. The Government will also continue to reform the State's health system through greater contestability in service provision and more efficient asset management, including investments in eHealth technology, particularly for patients in regional communities.
