Do you know a senior with tireless energy and determination? Someone who puts their community and loved ones before themselves, and deserves a pat on the back?

State Member for Riverstone, Kevin Conolly MP today called for nominations for the 2016 NSW Seniors Local Achievement Awards to recognise the huge contribution seniors make to our local community.

"Seniors make such an important contribution to their local community, and these awards are one way in which each local community can show its appreciation for the talents, skills and generosity for this impressive group of people." said Kevin Conolly.

The 2016 awards will celebrate seniors for their achievement in business, health and wellbeing, community service, intergenerational understanding, lifelong learning and environment, science and agriculture categories.

Mr Conolly said that he is keen to celebrate the vital and important role seniors play within our community.

"I believe it is important to give thanks where it is due and these awards are our community's way of showing its appreciation for these exceptional seniors," says Mr Conolly.

Nominations for the 2016 NSW Seniors Week Local Achievement Awards are open now and close on 1 April 2016.

The awards will be presented as part of the 10-day long NSW Seniors Festival from 1-10 April 2016, formerly known as the NSW Seniors Week.

It is the largest festival for seniors in the Southern Hemisphere. An estimated 300,000 seniors are expected to attend more than 1,000 free and discounted events throughout the state during the festival.

The activities support the objectives of the NSW Ageing Strategy, which was launched to support the health and wellbeing of seniors.
