SECOND STAGE OF SCHOFIELDS WEST LAND RELEASED
Written on the 16 May 2017 by Kevin Conolly
Member for Riverstone, Mr Kevin Conolly MP joined Minister for Planning Anthony Roberts yesterday when he announced the release of an extra 300 hectares of land in the remaining stage of the "Schofields West" precinct, north of Schofields Road, with the capacity to accommodate an extra 1,300 homes.
"Schofields West" is a precinct within the North-West Priority Growth Area and is being progressively developed to meet the housing needs of growing Sydney. The total number of new dwellings in the whole growth area over the next two decades is now projected to be 90,000, revised up from the previously announced 70,000. This will help to address the undersupply of dwellings over the last decade which has forced up Sydney prices.
"Increasing housing supply is the biggest factor in improving housing affordability for home buyers and the cost of rent for tenants," said Mr Conolly.
The release of the second stage of Schofields West is years ahead of schedule and is accompanied by NSW Government investment in the North West Metro, upgrading Schofields Road with an underpass below the Richmond rail line, the completed upgrade of Richmond Road, greater school capacity in the region, the new Police Station at Riverstone and the rollout of water and sewer infrastructure.
Minister Roberts said these current and new communities would benefit from the Sydney Metro Northwest being on their doorstep. The plan includes a corridor for a future extension of the Sydney Metro Northwest from Cudgegong Road Station to Marsden Park.
"With new development we need the right infrastructure. The plan provides robust plans to grow communities with access to schools, open space, jobs, roads and public transport," said Minister Roberts.
A detailed draft land use plan for the whole Schofields West precinct will be out on public exhibition later this year.
