Member for Riverstone Kevin Conolly today joined the Minister responsible for TAFE NSW, Adam Marshall at Nirimba TAFE campus to announce the NSW Government's establishment of a TAFE Teacher Recruitment Taskforce, which will deliver 253 new frontline TAFE teachers across the state over the next 12 months, of which 40% will be based in Western Sydney.

Minister responsible for TAFE NSW Adam Marshall said the new teachers would strengthen TAFE NSW and enable it to cater for increased enrolment demand in skilled trade qualifications.

"Our local Nirimba campus is earmarked to receive 8 of these new teachers, and this is a huge win for the local area, boosting skilled trade education locally where the construction industry is booming," said Mr Conolly.

"TAFE NSW is experiencing strong enrolment demand for Government-funded trade apprenticeships with data revealing a 19 per cent increase in enrolments for electricians and an 11 per cent increase for carpenters and plumbers compared to this time last year," Mr Marshall said.

"The NSW Government is getting out on the front foot and coordinating an unprecedented recruitment drive for 253 new frontline TAFE teachers in response to this demand.

"I look forward to welcoming these new teachers to the Nirimba campus," said Mr Conolly.

"The growth in teacher numbers reflects the strong demand for skilled trades workers right across the region. This is great news for local young people looking to realise their potential and to secure a good job for the future. Their prospects have never been brighter."
