TRAFFIC SWITCH ON RICHMOND ROAD AT MARSDEN PARK
Written on the 22 August 2016 by Kevin Conolly
Roads and Maritime Services is advising motorists new traffic conditions will be in place on Richmond Road between Elara Boulevarde and South Street from Friday 26 August as work moves ahead on the Richmond Road upgrade.
"Work is nearing completion on the NSW Government funded $135 million Richmond Road upgrade between Townson Road and Elara Boulevard to increase road capacity and improve safety in Sydney's north-west," said Mr Conolly, Member for Riverstone.
As work progresses on the project, southbound traffic on Richmond Road will be moved onto one lane of a recently completed section of road between Elara Boulevarde and South Street.
This arrangement will remain in place until all work on the project is completed later in the year. There will be no changes for northbound traffic.
In addition to this work, essential road surfacing work will be carried out at night and on weekends between South Street and Townson Road from Thursday 25 August until Sunday 2 October, weather permitting.
Work will include asphalting as part of widening Richmond Road to provide two lanes in each direction and a wide median to ensure capacity for a further additional lane in each direction in the future.
To reduce the impact on motorists, work will be carried out between 6pm and 5am on Thursdays and Fridays and from 6am to 6pm on weekends."
Traffic controllers and signage will be in place to guide traffic past the work site as well as a reduced speed limit to ensure the safety of motorists and workers. Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of work on nearby residents and businesses.
"The NSW Government is delivering this project to improve capacity along this critical north-south corridor as part of a huge program of work to support growth and provide better road connections to and from the region," Mr Conolly said.
Once completed the upgrade of Richmond Road will provide significant benefits for new communities including Marsden Park and Riverstone in the North West Priority Growth Area where an additional 200,000 people are expected live by 2045.
"The Richmond Road upgrade Stage 2 between Townson Road and north of Garfield Road West is on track to be completed later this year" said Mr Conolly.
