Sports courts at Riverstone Park will be updated thanks to a $250,000 NSW Government grant provided to Blacktown Council to convert the ageing tennis courts to multi-purpose courts and to resurface the 4 aging netball courts.

Member for Riverstone Kevin Conolly said the funding, which will be matched by Blacktown Council, would provide the local community with a variety of new sports facilities and modernisation of the current ageing netball courts.

"Multi-purpose courts provide spaces which can be used for a wide range of recreation activities, benefitting more people," Mr Conolly said.

"The courts will be adjacent to the skate park, providing a wide range of activities for young people.

"The site will be modernised with the courts to be resurfaced and new lighting installed, as well as goal posts and basketball rings.

"I met with players and committee members of the Riverstone Netball Club who were very excited to hear the news that plans to modernise their courts were being funded," said Mr Conolly.

"We are so excited, this is the first time in decades that our club and facilities have had any kind of funding support of this type," said Leanne Leache, Riverstone Netball Club President.

"This project will boost recreation options for the community and benefit the wellbeing of young people in particular, through increased physical activity and social interaction," Mr Conolly said.

Minister for Racing Paul Toole said the grant was funded through the Clubgrants Category 3 Infrastructure Grants program.

"More than $50 million in funding is being provided during this current term of government for projects across sport and recreation, emergency preparedness, and arts and culture," Mr Toole said.

These grants are funded by a contribution from the state's registered clubs to reinvest profits from gaming machines back into community projects.
